It’s really not surprising the Serenity beat out SW. It’s simply a better film. Serenity did more in one film then Lucas could do with 6 films and 15-20 years of fan fiction. I’m sure the vote was heavily influenced by the SW prequels, but Serenity garnering 68% of the vote vs 28% for SW is extremely impressive.
Sure, we all grew up on SW, but I REALLY loved Serenity (and it appears a lot of people agree with me). Hell, I didn’t even know it was based on a TV series till about 3 months after seeing it in theaters.
